Long COVID Assessment & Management

Some people who have been infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 can experience long-term effects from their infection, known as post-COVID conditions (PCC) or long COVID.

People call post-COVID conditions by many names, including long COVID, long-haul COVID, post-acute COVID-19, post-acute sequelae of SARS CoV-2 infection (PASC), long-term effects of COVID, and chronic COVID. In this article, I will call it long COVID.

Anyone who has been infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 can experience long COVID conditions, even people who had a mild illness or no symptoms from COVID-19. Most people with long-COVID will notice symptoms a few days after their SARS CoV-2 infection, but others will notice weeks after they first had an infection.

Currently, there is no standardized definition of long COVID but is generally described as symptoms that develop during or after a COVID-19 infection that continue for more than 12 weeks and are not explained by an alternative diagnosis.

Note

Recommendations and guidelines will change over time as the evidence evolves.

In Hunt Harvest Health Podcast Ep 168, Dr. Hillary shares her experience after getting COVID in December of 2021 and interviews her nutritional coach Kimberly Talbot, who helped her to overcome and learn more about this condition.  Their work together has inspired Hillary and Kim to share and educate others who might be suffering from post-viral syndromes.

Assessment and Management of Long COVID covers what PASC is, who has it, its symptoms, and why we are getting PASC.
